Instead of the usual, what will you be doing in 5 years.
Flash ahead 20 years, what do you think the biggest changes will be?
Personally, I think there will be more and more people working from home. I also think that we will live more and more virtually. We are almost there now thanks to: all our games, facebook, blackberries, etc.
I think there will be less interaction with people but more and more with machines. I joke that in 15 years, it will be me and the robots in the library.
What do you think?

I think that in 20 years from now, humans will have invented a touch-screen wrist-watch PDA that fits on your wrist! (Well, that is what I am hoping for...)
ReplyDeleteHere's my daily routine in the future:
Wake up in the morning feeling like P.Diddy..
Okay, maybe not. However, I'd wake up and brush my teeth while the motion-sensored water tap shuts off automatically; I'd eat my cooked freeze-dried "astronaut" food; walk a bit to take the VIVA to the TTC subway; allowing myself to play on my 3D holographic watch on the way with the wi-fi network in the bus; finishing up my powerpoint on the way, prepping for my presentation and also tweeting my status. Afterwards, I'd video-call my buddy for a chat. Once I arrive at work, I'd scan my hand to authorize the door to open and I'd work on my coffee table which is a touch-screen computer. I would have a video conference with all my international employees from Japan, China and India with by-the-second translation. After working so diligently, I would go to the library to self-check-out & self-return my DVDs. (Oh wait, that already exists at Angus Glen!)
Once I return home, I would sign out more books & DVDs from a library vending machine from the corner of the street.
That's just my revelation of the future... 20 years? That's a looong time from now, so I hope some of my predictions end up correct. :)
Hmm... 20 years is hard to determine, but what I know is that I will be seeking out for the fun in everything I do =)
ReplyDelete-Be positive-
Computers all the way!
ReplyDeleteIn 20 years, I think Canada will be more like Netherlands and Denmark and create many pro-biking policies. It will do wonders for the environment and for our health! Each house will have it's own compost, and vegetable garden. Schools will require a class on environmental ethics and intellectual property rights. Kids will be educated on internet ethics. Libraries will have extensive ebook collections ready to be checked out from home. The world will follow in Finland's footsteps and make broadband a legal right for its citizens. For fun, travelling will become a main activity, focusing on eco-friendly resorts. Being multilingual will become the norm, and most people will move internationally in their lives. In the arts, we will see more fusion of different cultures, creating new and exciting dances, styles and music. Going out to eat will become a more self-serve process, where the customer orders via a digital menu and food is delivered by robots.
ReplyDeleteI think that in 20 years, the biggest changes would be that I would be done school and that I will be working. There will be lots of different technologies like for example something that feeds you whenever you are feeling hungry and there will be high-tech stuff everywhere
ReplyDeleteIts hard to say what Ill do in 20 years but probably i would persue what interests me the most now like medicine and microbiology and end up going to Med school for 4 years.
ReplyDeleteMichael, I love how your day will unfold. I think it might be very much like you said.
ReplyDeleteCherry - I think that is a good idea for everyone now or in the future. I like that idea.
Anna - I see that coming more and more with the bike trails. Richmond Hill and Markham are both pushing for this right now. City of Toronto just made a big section of downtown bike friendly, last week.
Eco tourism is the big thing and will continue to be the norm. I was away a few weeks ago and I found hotels are really trying to be energy conscious with water, towels, etc.
Anonymous, I like the idea of something that feeds you especially if I do not have to do the shopping.
I also hope for many good doctors now and in the future.

hmmm... I am thinking about wars between countries. Of course, no one wants that to happen, but who knows if some countries might decide to mess around?
ReplyDeleteLives are precious, the only thing I hope is to have a peaceful world. Not only 20 years later, but also 30, 40.
I believe the society will be filled with robots by that time. Actually, it is not a bad thing at all. We can still live well with this new 'race'.
Well, this is more of a hopeful wish than a prediction, but in 20 years, I would imagine myself retired (which is a very, very early reirement) and traveling the world.
ReplyDeleteAfter "retiring", I would take up writing, or becoming an artist, and I would spend my days doing what I love to do in a spacey, modern condo ( when I'm not traveling, of course).
I imagine living in a clean, technology savvy city where there is little pollution, populated a diverse and accepting community.
I hope it comes true =)
Anonymous, unfortunately, war has been around forever and is not likely to change unless one of you becomes some awesome world leader who brings peace. The robot idea is what I see as well. If I still have a job, I will be in charge of the robots.
ReplyDeleteNancy, I would like to retire as well. The modern condo and tech city sound equally possible.
How will we eliminate pollution - teleworking?

As people have already mentioned, I think that 20 years from now the world will have a lot more technology, it's already growing fast right now, who knows where this technology will end up...
ReplyDeleteVinojen J.
As the technology in our world is increasing, it might not be as wonderful or advanced as we thought. An example of this is because rougly in 1960, the people of the world predicted that in the year 2000 all the cars would be replaced by hovercrafts.
ReplyDeleteSo I would not really rely on our imaginations.
20 YEARS FROM NOW, DORA THE EXPLORER WOULD BE USING A GPS, INSTEAD OF A MAP. BOOTS, THE MONKEY, WILL BE REPLACED BY A ROBOT AND DORA THE EXPLORER WILL HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY DUE TO THE FACT THAT SHE LOOKS THE SAME AFTER 20 YEARS.

I have a dream!
ReplyDeleteA dream where in 20 year guns will be powered by deadly lazers.
A dream where bikes shall be powered by our singing alone.
Still, it's only a dream.
Like Vesakha said, I don't believe life will be too different in 20 years than now. I don't believe much will change.
Maybe instead of using my hand to turn on the tap to brush my teeth, I can say 'Water on' so the automated water dispenser will recognize my voice and listen to my request.
I think in 20 years I would be finished with school and I would be designing new technologies that will be helpful to everyone since I am really interested in computers and science right now.
